Vitamin Supplements

No matter how well we eat, or think we eat, it’s a good idea to get an extra edge on nutrition with the best vitamin and mineral supplements. It’s like insurance. It’s protection. Even when we’re pretty sure we’ve got all the bases covered, “health insurance” in the form of quality, natural supplements is a very wise idea.

Many of us have questions about the food we buy, even some organic products. I may be a little paranoid, but organic food originating in China leaves me with a few unanswered questions. And, unlike those lucky enough to live close to Whole Foods Market, or a Farmer’s Market for that matter, the supplements I take have to insure coverage of what may be lacking in my daily diet, nutritious as it may well be.

Here are some basic nutrients and a few good reasons to add them to your daily routine.

Vitamins are the workhorses, rebuilding and repairing cell tissue and keeping our main illness prevention system - the immune system - healthy and strong. But there’s more. Vitamins A & D, both fat-soluble and essential. Frequently found together in nature, these two nutrients are responsible for immune system health on a cellular level, as well as maintanence of blood level calcium and bone strength.

The B Vitamins are a group of vitamins that all complement each other in maintaining the good health of our nervous system and even our skin and hair……….and much more. These vitamins are available in a “B Vitamin Complex” supplement. Your body will rapidly excrete what is not needed. Brewer’s yeast is a good source of B vitamins.

Vitamins C and E are so extremely important, and the late Linus Pauling was my hero. His research of Vitamin C means that we now know this vitamin (also known as ascorbic acid) is a most essential nutritional antioxident, supporting our immune systems by fighting free radicals. I believe that Vitamin C works in the prevention of, or certainly the lessening, of the symptoms of cold and flu. How do I know? Because it happened to me.

Vitamin E is one of my favorites, because it delivers results you can see. Be SURE you get the NATURAL form of Vitamin E which would be “d-Alpha”, the natural form made from food sources. Always check the label. Once thought to be useless, Vitamin E is a wonderful healer inside and out and is excellent for keeping skin looking younger, longer. That alone makes it worth it’s weight in gold!

Antioxidents are simply a group of many vitamins and other nutrients who’s job it is to reduce free radical growth, or even stop it. Antioxidents are thought to be our strongest defense against free radical damage and even the aging process…….and that’s a good thing. We’ll discuss antioxidents in great length in the future, right here.

In addition to all the good stuff above, good nutrition in supplement form also includes many minerals, enzymes, amino acids and herbal sources. And that, friend, is why multi vitamin and mineral supplements are such a great way to cover all the bases……like an umbrella insurance plan for good health.

Natural Supplements Guide

We’ve been warned. The nutrition level of the food we eat every day is notably lower than just a few decades ago. Most of the blame has gone to many who produce and process food on a commercial level. Aside from organic growers who’s methods return nutrients back into the soil naturally, commercial food production methods use chemicals to promote plant growth at the expense of fertile soil.

Other techniques to increase the bottom line include “tampering” with seeds, resulting in hybrid seeds that produce a product better suited to traveling fifteen-hundred miles than nourishing us, especially when it can be harvested before ripening, then treated with gases to look so good for shoppers.

Food processing adds another step in nutrition reduction, where shelf life is the name of the game. Added fats and sugars aren’t the only culprits here. I once bought a frozen pizza to serve my grandkids for lunch. Don’t ALL kids love pizza? To my surprise, the only familiar ingredients were flour, sugar and “tomato”. Everything else didn’t come close to resembling food, if I could even pronounce it. What did I do? I trashed the pizza and gave the kids some real food.

So, you say, “What does that have to do with supplements?” More than I can cover here today, but basically natural food supplements are a great way to replace what is lost in the food we eat. Food supplements are a huge business too. I take vitamin and mineral supplements every day. I gave them to my children when they were young. Natural supplements today are by far superior to what was available then, and the choices demand that we do our homework. You absolutely don’t want to waste your money on an herb that is actually fifty-percent (or more) just cheap filler. One that comes to mind is parsley. Now parsley’s not bad….it’s actually nutritious. But when I want parsley, I will buy just the parsley. You will not regret being a savvy shopper when you research and purchase your natural nutritional supplements.

I welcome you to Natural Supplement Guide. As we grow, you will benefit with essential information about herbal nutrition, so you can fortify your health as a truly informed consumer.

I have a good example of that. In the mid-nineties I learned about vitamin E. I found the information quite interesing even though no one seemed to think vitamin E would be beneficial. Basically the message was “useless….save your money”. I spent the money….some of the smartest money I ever spent. We’ll talk alot about vitamin E, but today I will say this. It’s the best thing I ever did for my skin. Of course now we know that vitamin E is good for your heart as well. Oh yeah, it’s a great healer too, applied topically to scrapes or wounds and even soothes and heals painful stitches. We keep learning………..

I hope you visit Natural Supplement Guide often. There is much to learn about how natural herbs and spices, infact, all botanicals positively affect our health. This is also an area where much of the learning is shared information. With that in mind, I invite your comments and suggestions. Someone out there needs to know what you know. Welcome aboard!
